In Between Time and Space

In between time and space, there is this thing…
No, this no-thing…
It is the cause of each moment.
Every instance springs from it.
Every creation, every idea,
Every notion, every movement,
Every spoken word, every kiss,
Every glimpse, every blissful experience,
Every smell, every sight, every sound.
All that is becomes from it.
We can feel its presence, sensate its activity,
With choice we harness it, with requests it answers,
Every present is presented from it,
Every accident displays it,
Every breath enjoys it.
Every atom is born anew, renewed, faster than we can imagine.
There is nothing in us that was there a year ago
Except our memories of its many manifestations,
Except our awe at its power,
Except our amazement at our occasional power over it,
Except our regrets that we did not harness it,
Except our glory in smiles when we did harness it properly,
Except our occasional fear that it may turn against us
Sprung from fear that our audacity…
To think we could control the present,
To think we could control the future!
But it is true - we do control these, and we did,
And we have, and we will.
We will.
We will.
And the tree’s branches will turn in the breeze of early morning,
The cockatoo will carry yet another seed.
That seed will sprout for another seed.
And another, and another, and another…
All from that thing, that no-thing,
That exists in between time and space.
In that moment just before a moment exists, and the one after,
And the one after that - all invisible time - all invisible space -
All invisible, coming about. Then we see but a memory of it.
There is nothing to grasp except that memory of it.
There is nothing any longer that exists of it.
There is nothing that has any quality of is-ness any longer
Except as it maintains itself with itself by itself.
Sprung from an inevitable future comes this immediate now,
And we create these futures by our will. By our aspirations.
And those futures manifest from that nothing:
That nothing from which somethings come about
Only to be no-thing again
For the next something.
And the next.
And the next.
